What does it mean and where does it come from “Touch wood”?
This expression is used in a situation in which we want to conjure up and ward off bad luck.  
It is often accompanied by the gesture of touching some wooden object.

This expression comes from the ancient Persians, who believed that in the wood grains resided the protective spirits of the man.
That's where the habit of touching wood came from in situations when they needed help or they were in danger. 

In the same way, the Celts considered the trees sacred and they would touch them to keep away bad luck and bad spirits.

Esta expresión se utiliza en una situación en la que queremos conjurar y alejar la mala suerte.
A menudo se acompaña del gesto de tocar algún objeto de madera. 

Esta expresión procede de los antiguos persas, que creían que en las vetas de la madera residían los espíritus protectores del hombre.
De ahí derivaba la costumbre de tocar madera en situaciones en que necesitaban ayuda o estaban ante un peligro. 

De la misma forma, los celtas consideraban sagrados los árboles y los tocaban para alejar la mala suerte y los malos espíritus.
