Love (for Spain) in the Time of Coronavirus - 2 - Spanish storytellers on social media (I): Nela Escribano

During the confinement we are living right now in Spain, people sharing free cultural content on social media has become trending all over the internet in order to help everyone to bear with this situation in a better way; to get distracted from anguish and distress… Many storytellers have taken a step forward. They have started recording themselves in their homes narrating -and singing- tales and stories for both a young and an adult audience (we love this kind of oral content for our Spanish advanced students). Their stories are usually based on Spanish literary tradition, both oral and written. Here, you have a mar-ve-lous narration by Nela Escribano, a former teacher of our school and very dear to all of us (then, now and always, she defines herself as “tulera for life”). Versatile artist, exceptional narrator… She recreates a sublime extract of Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) (very appropriate right now) by Gabriel García Márquez with that magic that is so characteristic of her. El amor (a España) en los tiempos del coronavirus - 2 - Narradores orales en las redes sociales (I)

En este confinamiento que nos está tocando vivir en España, una de las cosas que ha proliferado ha sido la difusión gratuita de cultura a través de las redes, para ayudar a sobrellevar el tedio a la población; también para distraer de la angustia y la preocupación… Un colectivo que ha dado un paso al frente en este sentido ha sido el de los narradores orales (que tanto nos gustan para los alumnos de niveles más altos de español): desde sus casas son muchos los que se han puesto a grabarse contando – y  cantando – cuentos e historias, para pequeños y para adultos, salidos frecuentemente de la tradición oral o literaria españolas.

Os traemos como primera muestra una narración ma-ra-vi-llo-sa que hace Nela Escribano, antigua profesora de nuestra escuela, muy querida por todos (entonces, hoy y siempre; ella misma se define como “tulera de por vida”...). Artista polifacética, contadora excepcional, recrea con la magia que sólo ella tiene, un extracto de la sublime Cien años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez, muy oportuno ahora mismo.
