20th April in the midst of this pandemic

Celtas Cortos
Today, 20th April, it is a date that always reminds us Spaniards of a song by Celtas Cortos (a group from Valladolid).
It is a folk rock group with celtic influences formed by: Jesús Cifuentes, Goyo Yeves, Alberto García, Chuchi Marcos, José Sendino, Antón Davila and Diego Martín. They started back in 1984 and, in November 1991, they published their third album Cuéntame un cuento that included the hit 20 de abril.

Official video clip April 20 of Celtas Cortos.

This year is the 30th anniversary of that 20th April 1990 the song mentions, and in order to celebrate such a date, Celtas Cortos has recorded a video of the song in different hospitals they have visited.
Many Spanish artists have participated singing from their homes: El Sevilla (Mojinos Escozíos), Rozalén, Carlos Tarque (M Clan), Ariel Rot, Eva Amaral, Zeta (Mago de Oz) or El Gran Wyoming.
Beside them, we see many patients and workers from those jobs that have been so-called “essential”: health workers, Red Cross volunteers, police officers, farmers, supermarket and off-licence employees…

All the profits made from this new version will be donated to Doctors without Borders in order to fight against this pandemic Spain and the whole world is suffering because of the COVID-19.

Here you have the lyrics:

20 de abril del 90
20th April 1990

Hola chata, ¿como estás?
Hey girl, how are you?

¿Te sorprende que te escriba?
Surprised I am writing to you?

Tanto tiempo es normal
Understandable, it’s been a long time

Pues es que estaba aquí solo
I was just here by myself

Me había puesto a recordar
I was thinking about the old times

Me entró la melancolía
I felt melancholic

Y te tenía que hablar
And I had to talk to you

Do you remember that night at Turmo’s cottage?

How did we use to laugh all together

Now, almost no one from back then is here

Y los que hay, han cambiado
And those who are have changed

Han cambiado, sí
They have changed, yeah

Pero bueno, ¿tú qué tal? Di
But, what about you? Tell me

Lo mismo hasta tienes críos
Maybe you even have kids

Qué tal te va con el tío ese?
How are you doing with that guy?

Espero sea divertido
I hope he is funny

Yo la verdad, como siempre
Me? As usual

Sigo currando en lo mismo
My job is the same

La música no me cansa
Music does not tire me

Pero me encuentro vacío
But I feel empty

Do you remember that night at Turmo’s cottage?

How did we use to laugh all together

Now, almost no one from back then is here

Y los que hay, han cambiado
And those who are have changed

Han cambiado, uh
They have changed, uh

Bueno pues ya me despido
Well, I say goodbye now

Si te mola me contestas
If you want to, answer me

Espero que mis palabras
I hope my words

Desordenen tu conciencia
Mess up your mind

Pues nada chica, lo dicho
Ok girl, that’s it

Hasta pronto si nos vemos
See you soon if we ever meet

Yo sigo con mis canciones
I will go on with my songs

Y tú sigue con tus sueños
And you go on with your dreams

Do you remember that night at Turmo’s cottage?

How did we use to laugh all together

Now, almost no one from back then is here

Y los que hay, han cambiado
And those who are have changed

Han cambiado, sí
They have changed, yeah
