Love (for Spain) in the Time of Coronavirus - 1 - "Resistiré", an anthem

Spain is living a quarantine, like almost the whole world, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus. A virus first detected in Wuhan (China) in December 2019. We are living an unprecedented situation, both as individuals and as a society. From this situation, different gestures of solidarity and gratitude have arisen. For instance, the applause we can hear at every window or balcony at eight o’clock in the evening. A gesture that repeats every day in all neighbourhoods in Spain in order to thank all the hard work nurses, doctors and other workers of the emergency services are doing. 

Dúo Dinámico (Manuel de la Calva and Ramón Arcusa)

Spanish people are playing music during the applause and the song that can be heard in most cases is Resistiré, by the Dúo Dinámico, one of the most influential groups in the history of Spanish pop music. This duet was formed in 1958 by Manuel de la Calva and Ramón Arcusa. Spanish radios are playing again Resistiré in 2020, a song written in 1988. The authors have proudly mentioned that: “It already belongs to the people, it is the official anthem in the resistance against this virus”. Since the quarantine began, many versions of the song have been published in different platforms. 

Here you have the latest version of the classic Resistiré that can be heard in every balcony, window or radio station these days. 50 Spanish singers and musicians have participated in it from their homes and home studios.
El Dúo Dinámico has given Madrid the copyright of the song as a gift. This way, anyone can share it on their social media and fulfil the objective of raising funds for Caritas in order to provide help to those families that are affected the most by coronavirus.

El amor (a España) en los tiempos del coronavirus - 1 - El himno de "Resistiré"

España está sumergida en una cuarentena, y prácticamente todo el planeta, debido a la pandemia del COVID-19, también conocida como enfermedad por coronavirus. Un virus que se detectó, por primera vez, en la ciudad china de Wuhan, en diciembre de 2019.

Estamos viviendo una situación inédita, tanto a nivel de individuos como de sociedad. Y dentro de esta situación, se pueden ver gestos de solidaridad y agradecimiento, como están siendo los aplausos a las 20h desde ventanas y balcones. Un gesto que se repite cada día en los barrios de toda España para agradecer el trabajo de los enfermeros, médicos y resto de profesionales de los servicios de emergencia. 

Este gesto se está acompañando por música, escuchándose principalmente la canción Resistiré del Dúo Dinámico, uno de los grupos más influyentes del pop español. Este dúo musical se formó en 1958 por Manuel de la Calva y Ramón Arcusa. La canción Resistiré, compuesta en 1988, es uno de sus temas más destacado que ahora mismo se vuelve a escuchar en las radios españolas. Ante esta situación, sus propios autores han comentado orgullosos lo siguiente: "Ya pertenece a los ciudadanos, es el himno oficial de la resistencia al virus". En las distintas plataformas de la red podemos ver versiones que se van creando de esta canción, desde el confinamiento.

Nosotros compartimos esta simpática versión compuesta por varios miembros de un club del ukelele de Madrid, cada uno desde su casa, tocando y cantando la emblemática canción del Dúo Dinámico.
